Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin - Game's Story

You wake up under a stone gazebo and make your way to a cabin where there are three old ladies and a young woman. The old ladies call you an Undead and ask if you spoke to that kind old dear. They tell you you'll eventually become Hollow like all the others, but still show you the way to the kingdom. They advise you to hold on to your souls because they're the only thing that'll keep you from going Hollow. You follow the way the old lady pointed at and walk outside of their cabin. You keep going and end up in Majula.

You walk downhill to what looks like a decrepit town. You light a bonfire and see a woman looking out at sea. You talk to her and she asks if you are the next Monarch. She tells you to seek out greater, souls to be able to meet King Vendrick. She mentions that a blue knight at the base of the tower gives sound advice, so you decide to go speak to him. He mentions that you might find something in the Forest of the Giants that will be of use on your journey. He also mentions the way to Heide’s Tower of Flame. You decide to venture into the Forest of the Giants first, since the knight said you would find something important. You travel through the forest to get to the Cardinal Tower, in which you eventually find The Last Giant. You get the Soldier Key after defeating him, and not sure how this key is supposed to be of use on your journey, you decide to go to Heide’s Tower of Flame.

There, you fight your way through the Old Knights to get to the Dragonrider. Past him, you go up the tower where you meet Licia of Lindeldt. After talking to her, she tells you she needs to move where there’s more people. You then find a path that leads you to No-man’s Wharf. You make your way through several buildings to find a bell. When you ring the bell, a ghost ship moves towards the dock. After fighting your way back through the buildings and onto the dock, you get on the ship and fight the Flexile Sentry. Once defeated, you can take control of the ship and sail away to the Lost Bastille.

Going through the Lost Bastille, you find yourself in a fight against the Ruin Sentinels. Once they’re defeated, you find a secret door that leads to a tower called Belfry Luna. There, you fight off several Bell Keepers to get to the top and fight the Belfry Gargoyles. After fighting them, you loot a body to find the Bastille Key. You retrace your steps and continue going through the Lost Bastille and find yourself in Sinner’s Rise. You go down a ladder to enter a room with an elevator. Taking the elevator down brings you to the flooded dungeons. After wading through them, you end up on a path leading to a door with two staircases on each side. You take the time to go up each staircase and open the doors to light the oil inside. Thanks to this, you can enter to fight the Lost Sinner in light instead of darkness. After defeating her, you receive one of the Old Souls. You use the Primal Bonfire to travel back to Majula where you go back towards Heide’s Tower of Flame.

There, you see Licia next to the contraption in the middle of the room. She tells you there’s a hidden doorway that she can reveal using the contraption and a miracle. You pay her to reveal the doorway. Taking this path, you end up in Huntsman’s Copse. You fight your way through Huntsman’s Copse to get to Harvest Valley, which leads you to Earthen Peak where you meet Gilligan, a laddersmith. You finish talking to him and continue to Iron Keep. After going through the Iron Keep, you face off against the Old Iron King. Once defeated, he gives you an Old Soul and you once again use the Primal Bonfire to travel back to Majula.

In Majula, you pay Gilligan for a ladder down the pit and reach the Grave of Saints. Going through the Grave of Saints leads you to The Gutter. You take your time going through this treacherous place to avoid falling to your death and eventually make it to the Black Gulch. After carefully making your way through the poisonous Black Gulch, you end up face to face with The Rotten, who gives you another Old Soul after defeating him.

After returning to Majula via the Primal Bonfire, you discover a cave that leads you in front of a door with the lever to open it blocked by a petrified women. You use a Fragrant Branch of Yore to un-petrify her and pull the lever to enter the Shaded Woods. After going through a mist infested with invisible ennemies and some ruins, you find yourself in Doors of Pharros where you quickly make your way to Brightstone Cove Tseldora. You fight your way through the place to find yourself in a giant cave with a giant spider, The Duke’s Dear Freja. After defeating it, you notice the dead dragon entangled in the webs and a soul on the ground near it. You collect it to find it’s the last of the Old Souls.

You go to light the Primal Bonfire, but there’s an explosion instead and a giant charred human head covered in flames appears. He tells you that there are only two paths, inherit the order of the world or destroy it, but only a true monarch can take the decision. He asks if you are willing to make that decision and tells you to seek after Vendrick so he can guide your way. You go back to Majula and speak to the Emerald Herald. She tells you to go to the castle and, so, you go back to the Shaded Woods and go through the Shrine of Winter to arrive at Drangleic Castle.

Once inside the castle, you find the ghost of Chancellor Wellager who seems quite confused, but keeps asking where is the King. You fight your way through the castle to get to the throne room, where the disappearance of King Vendrick is confirmed when you see only Queen Nashandra. She tells you Vendrick was less of a king than was thought and she hints that we should go and kill him. You go through the King’s Passage to get to the Shrine of Amana. Going through the Shrine of Amana brings you to the Undead Crypt.

In the Crypt, you go to light a bonfire, but it explodes instead and the giant charred human head appears again. It tells you a bit about life and some history about a Lord of Light. Then he asks you if you still desire peace. What ever you answer he will tell you that Vendrick is near and disappears. You go through the Undead Crypt to face off Velstadt, the Royal Aegis. After defeating him, you finally find King Vendrick. Seeing his Hollow form just walking around aimlessly, not even attacking you, you decide to spare him. You see a bundle at the end of the room and collect the King’s Ring, hoping it will be enough to convince Queen Nashandra you actually killed him. You turn around and see the Emerald Herald in the doorway. She tells you the ring will give you passage through the King’s Gate and to venture far east. You then go back to Queen Nashandra to show her the ring and she tells you to find the symbol of the monarch.

You make your way east to the Shaded Woods and search for a door with the symbol on the ring. Once you find it, you open it and it brings you to Aldia’s Keep. You travel through the castle, fighting strange beasts on the way, and get to the Dragon Aerie. You climb your way up the mountain to arrive at the Dragon Shrine. You go to light a bonfire, but the charred head appears again, only smaller. This time, after a speach about the illusion of life, it asks if you want to spoil this falsehood. Whatever you answer, he will introduce himself as Aldia and tells you to seek the throne. You continue on your way and climb up to meet the Ancient Dragon who gives you the Ashen Mist Heart. You venture back to Queen Nashandra who tells you to seek the forest where the Giants slumber.

You go to the Forest of Fallen Giants and find a locked door. You use the Soldier Key you had gotten from the Last Giant and it opens the door. Behind it, lies another door with the symbol of the king, and so, you put on the ring and open the door to see a big tree resembling the Last Giant. You examine it and find yourself transported into the Memory of Jeigh. You are in the middle of a battle between humans and Giants and find yourself fighting against the Giant Lord. Once defeated, he drops the Giant’s Kinship. You go back to Drangleic Castle to see Nashandra, but she isn’t on her throne anymore. Remembering there was a door here with the King’s symbol, you go to it and open the door. Behind it, you see the Emerald Herald. She tells you a bit of her backstory and says Nashandra will try to kill you if you proceed. She covets the First Flame and the Great Soul, and you should put her to rest.

You proceed and find yourself in a battle against the Throne Watcher and Throne Defender. Immediately after defeating them, you hear Nashandra’s voice and see a giant skeletal being go through the door. This is Nashandra’s true form. She starts attacking you. After defeating her, you think it’s finally over, but you hear Aldia’s voice now. You have to defeat him aswell to prove yourself. After defeating him, Aldia says the throne will certainly receive you, but the question still remains if you will take it. You walk towards the Kiln on the other side of the chasm and the golems come to life to form a bridge for you. You walk to the door of the Kiln, open it and sit on the throne.
