Welcome to the last day of my book club readalong! We are currently reading Her Night with the Duke by Diana Quincy. Today, we’ll take a look at chapters 25 to 32 (32 being the epilogue). I hope you enjoy this format!
Since this is a readalong, there will definitely be spoilers ahead so make sure that you’ve either also read chapters 25 to 32, or you don’t intend on reading this book and are just curious, or you simply don’t care about spoilers haha.
Chapter 25
Leela sure knows how to ruin the mood hahaha. They’re laying naked and she starts talking about Tori and Foster, knowing very well Elliot doesn’t want to talk about Foster! I was surprised, but also not surprised at the same time at how Edgar is handling the situation. With how he seemed worried about not hearing from Tori for so long, I thought he would be decent with her, but instead he acted like I would’ve expected him to before his talk with Leela and shut her out. He even went and sold her things! And he finally blackmailed Leela like I thought he would from the beginning.
Chapter 26
When Leela agreed so easily to selling Edgar Parkwood, I immediately knew she was planning on buying the mill with the money. There was no way we would be shown this mill and then nothing happens with it. I’m really glad she gets to buy it herself. I love how Tori learned from Leela that she had to fight for love and now Leela is slowly learning from Tori how it’s okay to give up everything for love.
Chapter 27
I really disliked Elliot’s comment about how Foster embraced certain ruin by going after Tori. I could tell right there that he still wasn’t ready to give up everything for Leela, even though he says he loves her. This thought was even more confirmed when he learned that Leela was still planning on traveling and he wasn’t willing to go with her.
Chapter 28
I really loved seeing more of Leela’s family in this chapter. It was great seeing another side of her and learning a bit more about her mother. As for Elliot, why did it take him talking to his ex-mistress for his eyes to start to open?
Chapter 29
He actually went to Manchester in search of Leela! I never thought he would go somewhere where merchants lived! I really liked how he felt out of place among Leela’s people. I wish he would’ve delved a bit deeper in that feeling and started understanding how Leela feels when she’s in the high society world. When he proposed to Leela, I thought for sure he had finally come to his senses. He was close, but not quite there yet, sadly. There were still remnants of the need to do his duty in what he asked of Leela.
Chapter 30
Why couldn’t he have this conversation with Griff sooner?! I’m glad he went to Tori and talked to her. It feels fitting that she be the one to also teach him how it’s okay to give up everything for love. We finally catch a glimpse of Leela’s brother! He seems like a bit of an asshole, but I think that’s just his attitude towards high society people. I have a feeling he wants nothing to do with them haha.
Chapter 31
I love that Leela and Elliot met again in an inn, but this time it was Elliot who needed a room. He FINALLY came to his senses! I’m so glad he hired Foster back! I thought it was entirely stupid of him to be so mad at Foster for following his heart. And now he’s finally ready to give up everything for Leela!
Chapter 32
I FUCKING KNEW IT!! I KNEW SHE WASN’T BARREN!! I cannot tell you how I screamed of joy when they revealed they had a child! I also really like how Elliot is so supportive of her now. He even gave her notes on her next manuscript! His comment on how he wanted a girl so they would keep trying for an heir made me laugh so hard. It was the perfect ending.
Last thoughts
I surprisingly enjoyed the book! I thought it would be way too corny for me, but it wasn’t as corny as I thought it would be. There was a strong female character and an actual plot. The sex scenes were most of the time way too corny for me to read them seriously, but that’s fine. I wasn’t reading the book only for those scenes haha. I almost wish there would’ve been a bit more encounters with Edgar. I feel like he should’ve been a bit more of a threat than he was. Other than that, I’m pretty satisfied with the story! I give this a 4 out of 5!
I hope you've enjoyed this format. I might do it again in the future!
