This question is such a loaded question for me because the answer depends on my mood.
First you have the new TV shows. Watching a new TV show is so much fun. You get to experience everything for the first time. Every twist, every emotion, everything is new and exciting. I love falling in love with new characters and being excited and interested about what is going to happen next to them. On the flip side, it takes time to find new interesting shows. You sadly have to go through watching a couple of episodes and still not falling in love with the characters or the story, so you have to start all over. Search for a show that sounds interesting, start watching it and hope that it's actually interesting. I don't always have much time to watch stuff so having to go through the process of finding a new interesting show sometimes isn't worth it. Also, if you start a new NEW TV show, then you have to wait for each episodes. I love a good cliffhanger, but I'm also extremely impatient and hate having to wait a whole week, sometimes more, before finding out what happens next.
Then you have the good old favorites. I turn to those when I know exactly what kind of experience I want and when I just need the comfort. I read that people that suffer from anxiety often go back to old TV shows because they know what'll happen next. It's definitely the case for me. I love knowing what'll happen next and seeing how the characters act when I know the ending. I love seeing the little clues that were left here and there that are revealed at the end, but you get to notice them when you watch it again. Also, like I said, when I'm not feeling very good and I know I want to watch something that'll make me feel better, I go back to my favorites. The ones that I go back to the most are Gossip Girl, Gilmore Girls, One Tree Hill and Sex and the City.
All in all, if I'm feeling like I want to watch something for comfort, I'm going to go back to old favorites. But if I want to experience something new and actually have the time to find something interesting, I'll go for a new TV show. Now tell me, which one do you prefer?
