The Crown of Gilded Bones - Book Review

The Crown of Gilded Bones, by Jennifer L. Armentrout, continues to follow Poppy as she slowly learns who she truly is. They have finally reached Atlantia, but, sadly, her welcoming wasn’t a happy one. They learn of Alastir’s betrayal and Poppy gets kidnapped and almost given to the Ascended. The outcome of this misadventure strips her completely of her mortal blood and in search to learn what exactly she is. As her power grows and the wolven bind to her, they suspect she is a deity descendent of Nyktos, the King of the Gods. As Poppy is forced to travel to many places throughout this book, she learns more and more about where she comes from and each new revelation unlocks new questions until all seems answered and they’re left with war.

This book was less filled with history of Solis and Atlantia, and more of learning who Poppy really is. It was very fascinating seeing her go through the denial of what she was and slowly come to accept it, only to be tought something more about herself. She just kept going from one new thing to another. She handled it well, though, and found her confidence and her voice in all of these revelations. I really enjoy how she’s just so tired of the bullshit now. She doesn’t avoid hard subjects and doesn’t shy away from saying what she thinks and asking questions. I really love her character development in this book. Casteel and her’s relationship just grows stronger and stronger in this book and I’m all for it. I love how he teases her and how he just isn’t shy about showing his love in front of everybody. I also love how Kieran is becoming more and more protective and attentive to Poppy. He’s still teasing her like he used to, but he also shows how he cares for her. I really love this trio.

This book continues the series’s streak of 5 out of 5 from me. I am amazed at how I just love each book more and more. The revelations in this one really kept me on the edge of my seat. Definitely recommend.
