The War of Two Queens - Book Review

The War of Two Queens seperates itself from the other books by switching between Poppy’s point of view and Casteel’s point of view. While Casteel is stuck chained to a wall in a dark underground cell, being regularly attacked by Cravens and cut by the Handmaidens, Poppy is conquering cities. After traveling back to Evaemon to regroup, Poppy figures out she can summon de drakens herself. After doing so, they plan on conquering cities in the most peacefull way possible. They start with Massenne, entering the city by surprise with minimal guards being killed. They take over the city, starting the hard task of reassuring the citizens that the Atlantians mean no harm. They continue their conquering to Oak Ambler. Having alerted the citizens before, they find that most of them have exited the city to not be stuck in the crossfire. After conquering Oak Ambler, Poppy receives a “gift” from Isbeth which promps her to go to Casadonia sooner than expected to save Casteel.

In this book, there are a whole lot happening. So many more revelations. I really enjoyed reading a bit on Casteel’s side. It was refreshing to read someone else’s point of view. Not that Poppy is an annoying character to read, but it was different. It was also quite funny since Casteel is almost always horny. We are introduced a bit more to two characters that might become more important in the next books. Malik and his heartmate, Millicent, who also happens to be Poppy’s sister. We get to hear the full prophecy which really threw me off for quite some time. I figured out some bits of it, but some others were only clear once certain aspects of the lore was revealed. There was a lot of more lore given towards the end of the book which cleared some more questions I had.

There is so much character development in this book. With the kidnapping of Casteel, Poppy is forced to rule by herself. It forces her to quickly learn how to be a Queen and she does so beautifuly. I absolutely adore her confidence. She is really a no bullshit kind of gal. She can sense when others don’t trust her and call them out on it. She also calls them out when they’re being disrespectful towards her. It’s so sastisfying to read. Her relationship with Kieran also deepens a lot with both of them relying on the other for comfort since they both miss Casteel. We also get a bit of Tawny back, which I was missing so much because of her bluntness.

With the story being so full of action with Poppy conquering cities and going to save Casteel and everything else after, and the change to also have a bit of Casteel’s point of view, this book entirely deserves a 5 out of 5. I cannot wait for the next book to come out!
