Falling for Christmas - Movie Review

Falling for Christmas, a Christmas romantic comedy, is about Sierra Belmont, a spoiled hotel heiress, who loses her memory after a skiing accident. A local lodge owner, Jake Russel, finds her and offers her a place to stay at his lodge while she waits for someone to find her, or for her memories to return. Sierra meets Jake's daughter, Avy, and his step-mother,Alejandra, and bonds with them. She starts off really struggling with basic tasks, but slowly gets better at doing them and starts helping more around the lodge.

The story for this movie was pretty typical for a romantic comedy. Spoiled rich girl engaged to self-centered guy loses her memory, falls in love with a commoner and the experience changes her view on the world when she regains her memory. Even though it's a plot that has been done a million times and is extremely predictable, I still enjoy watching them. There's always little bits of personalization when it comes to these overdone plots. I loved how, even though she lots her memory, there were still things that were natural to her. For exemple, her inability to do house chores, or when she said she didn't do bacon. She didn't know why, it just came natural to her to answer that. But then she tried it and loved it haha. I also find it funny that what got her in this mess was the fact that she had a skiing accident while trying to take a picture when she doesn't even know how to sky, but then Jake teaches her!

The characters were all perfect in their roles. Sierra's absent father wanting to take care of her, but not present enough to know how to do that properly. Her fiance being super self-centered and really easy to dislike. Jake, the way too nice widow lodge owner that takes care of everyone around him but doesn't want to look like a charity case even though he also needs help. And Sierra, the spoiled heiress that has no idea how to do anything. I actually loved the part where she was talking with the horse and said "You'd think I'd have some sort of skill". She doesn't remember who she is, but that's her realizing she doesn't know how to do anything basic and that's going to help her when she gets her memories back to decide she actually wants to do something with her life.

Overall, it was a good movie. Like I said, it's a plot that we've seen a million times in movies, but it was still executed beautifuly with it's own personal touches. I'll give it a 4 out of 5.
