The second season of Bridgerton is based on The Viscount Who Loved Me. We are following Anthony and Eloise while they navigate the season to reach their goal. Anthony wishes to find a wife that'll manage the home as perfectly as his mother did, while Eloise is more looking to be left alone. A new family is in town for this season, with two sisters, Kate and Edwina Sharma. Lady Danbury has graciously accepted to sponsor Edwina's season, while Kate is focused on helping her little sister to find a proper husband. To spice things up, Lady Danbury convinces the queen to name Edwina her diamond, which immediately catches Anthony's attention. As he's trying to court Edwina, Kate, after overhearing Anthony's requirements in a wife, keeps blocking his path. Meanwhile, Eloise's search for Lady Whistledown brings her to a printer in Bloomsbury. There, she meets Theo who, after Eloise tries to explain to him what she was looking for without mentionning Lady Whistledown, gives her a pamphlet about women's rights. As she keeps avoiding her mother who's trying to find her a suitor, Eloise becomes more and more interested in what the pamphlet brought forward, as it aligned with a lot of thoughts she already had.
It was a very difficult season for me to watch this time. I really enjoyed the stories they were telling and everything that was going on, but I just had such a hard time looking at Anthony trying to court a woman that looked half his age. Also, knowing that he would probably end up with Kate and not Edwina, it made it very cringy to watch him court her and even go as far as proposing to her. I was also very frustrated at Penelope because she just wouldn't tell Eloise she's Lady Whistledown! After it was revealed at the end of the first season that it was her, I thought for sure she would tell Eloise. They're best friends and Eloise really liked what Lady Whistledown wrote! I think that if Penelope had told Eloise before writing that scathing article about her, it would've gone better. I think Eloise would've understood or even helped her find another way.
Although I do wish Penelope would've told Eloise she's Lady Whistledown, I am quite intrigued to see if she's going to take the gloves off and start being a lot meaner in what she writes. With Eloise shunning her out and overhearing Colin saying he would never court her, I think Penelope is going to go on a rampage and I am all in for that. Since we seem to be focusing on different family members each season, I am curious to see who we'll be focusing on next season. With Colin back and trying to make a name for himself, we might be diving into that. There's also Benedict who quit the art school after learning of Anthony's donation. Maybe he'll finally enter the season and find a wife. I'm sure we're not done with Eloise's story so we are probably going to see more of her. But the two youngest Bridgertons are too young to enter the season and we've barely seen them again, so I doubt we'll be focusing on them much. I am also quite intrigued if we'll see Edwina again since Lady Danbury accepted to sponsor her for another season.
With this season being a bit on the cringe side for me because of the age difference between Anthony and Edwina, and with the attraction he had towards Kate while courting her younger sister, I can't give this season a 5 out of 5. If I looked past those two points, the story was still very interesting and I can't wait for the next season, so it does still deserve a 4 out of 5 in my book.
