In season two of Locke & Key, we learn that keys can be made from the "rocks" that come out of the portal. Dodge obviously wants to make one, but we only learn what she wants it to do near the end of the season. Disguised as Gabe, she continues to pretend to be Kinsey's boyfriend to gather information on how to make the key. Meanwhile, the Locke kids are faced with the fact that if they don't find out how their dad and his friends kept their memory of the keys, they too will not remember them when they turn 18.
SPOILER ALERT
The story this season was really interesting, with the revelation that they can make keys. I also loved the fact that they showed flashbacks from the past when the original Locke's found the portal and made the first key. It did also introduce so many questions concerning the existing keys. If you need to imbue your desire to the key for it to do what you want it to do, I would love to know why they made all those keys. Why did they need a key that lets you go inside your head? Why did they need a key that lets you go anywhere? Why did they need a key that plants anything. I get how useful they can be, but I would love to know what made the previous generations of Locke's make those keys. They also talked a lot about how they think they find the keys when they most need them. I would be curious to go back to season one and check when they found the keys what would've made them need them.
I honestly was frustrated with the characters this season. Tyler was so focused on finding a way for his girlfriend to remember the keys that he never stopped to ask her if she wanted to remember them. And was so shocked when she said she didn't want this knowledge. All I could think was "Are the keys the only thing keeping your couple together? Can't you find something else to bond over?" And when they finally found the key to make them keep their memory of the keys, they used it on their uncle immediately to help him recover from getting all the memories put back in his head, but they never thought of using the key on their mother! Instead they kept pushing her to the side, never explaining anything because they knew she would forget immediately, even though they had the key to make her remember! It put her in so much danger! Not only from Dodge because she wasn't aware of what was going on, but it almost brought her back to drinking alcohol because she felt disconnected from her family! I cried so much at the end when Bode brought his mother in her head so she could see memories of her husband. And I hope with all my heart that them ending with Bode holding the memory key means he used it on his mother!
SPOILER ALERT END
I give this season a big 'ole 4 out of 5. The characters frustrated me at times, but the story was still very interesting and I am definitely curious about what will happen in next season.
